FAFSA Assistance
                Monday May 14th: 9am-12pm
                 An expert from GA Student Finance will be here to helpe parents and
                 students complete their FAFSA (Financial AID Application). This is
                 the LAST chance to attend a FAFSA event this year! You can come
                 by as a drop-in or contact us to reserve a time spot by emailing 
                 Mrs. Jackson ( or contacting Mrs. Shiver 
STRIVE to DRIVE             
                 May 24th! Seniors! Strive to Drive is the VHS student incentive program that lets
                 YOU  get your very own KEYS to a FREE car!! 
                   What qualifies you for an entry?
                   1) Pass all classes with a 70 or above this semester
                   2) miss less than 15 days for the school year
                   3) Have no discipline referrals for this semester.

                   All qualified seniors get ONE entry! The winner will be announced at grad practice!


FAFSA Friday  (NEW DATE!!)
              April 12, 2018 (THURSDAY!) : 12pm to 5:30 pm
              VHS Parents can get help to complete the FAFSA (Financial Aid
              Application). FAFSA determines your student's eligibility for need based federal
              financial aid for college. This is a FREE service offered by Angie Wilson with
              Georgia Student Finance to assist parents in completing the FAFSA.
              Spots will fill up fast. Please call the counseling office to schedule an apt time
              and get a list of items to bring. 229-333-8540 ask for Mrs. Shiver.
              UPDATE: All spots are currently full for both dates! 
              April 10, 2018 & March 7, 2018- VHS Counseling Dept will be administering the SAT
              at VHS on scheduled dates in March and April. On campus testing is designed to
              assist those students who have difficulty with transportation in accessing college
              testing. The VHS tests dates are reserved for those students in 11th & 12th grades
              who are on track to graduate, have at least a 2.0 GPA, have passed or enrolled in
               Algebra 1, Geometry, and Foreign Language. Students who are eligible for fee
              waivers can use one of their waivers for the on campus testing. Student also 
              need to register with the Counseling Dept for our on campus dates (do not register
              online at collegeboard). Becasue of the high demand, we are only allowing
              students to register for ONE on campus test this school year. 
College Week at VHS

Washington Youth Tour
             March 1, 2018 - Week Long Washington Tour for current Juniors! Each year
             Colquitt EMC sponsors two High School Juniors to attend the Washington Youth Tour.
             If interested, complete the application and return it by March 1st. You can also pick
             up an application in the counseling dept and return it to us by March 1st ( we will
             email it for you). (Applicant must reside in the household of a Colquitt EMC
             member.  Visit their online site for more information:
Cap & Gown Ordering
               November 29th- Herff Jones will be back at VHS for Cap/Gown ordering during all
               lunches. Cap & Gown is just $45 if that is all that you order (that price includes tax
               & shipping). All other senior materials have their prices listed in the order form.

Hugh O'Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar
                Deadline Nov 3, 2017  -This is a summer leadership program for current 10th graders.
                VHS counseling dept chooses ONE sophomore a year to sponsor. The Georgia
                Southeast program will be at Georgia College June 8-10th! All you have to do is
                provide your own transportation. Applications are available with Mrs. Shiver in the
                counseling office.
PROBE College Fair & College/Career Info Night
                 October 27, 6pm: Information for parents about transcripts, SAT/ACT, and other
                 important senior year information. 6:30-8pm: PROBE College Fair in the VHS Gym.
                 Almost 60 colleges have registered to attend. Seniors & parents are encouraged to
                 attend. All grade levels are invited!
Lowndes Youth Leadership Applications
                Deadline Oct 19, 2017 - For current 10th and 11th Grades
                Apply online:
                Given Oct 11, 2017 - All 10th graders (class of 2020) will be given the PSAT for FREE. 
                11th graders may want to take the NMSQT /PSAT to try qualifying for National Merit
                Scholarships. Any 9th grader or 11th grader wishing to take it needs to sign
                up with Mrs. Shiver, counseling secretary, by this Friday, Sept. 22nd. The cost is $15.
